BMP Tappi’s goals, challenges, and innovations: interview with Site Manager Fausto Cattaneo

With over 60 years of experience in the production of caps, protections and plastic components for industrial applications, BMP TAPPI is now an established and constantly evolving company. Becoming part of the Essentra group, investments in sustainability as well as a focus on internal growth has accelerated a path of innovation involving people, processes and products.

In this interview, Fausto Cattaneo – Site Manager of BMP TAPPI – talks about the main challenges, strategies and vision that guide the company through its present and future development.

1. What are the main challenges you face in a leadership role for a company like BMP TAPPI?

The main challenges and daily objectives are to listen and collaborate with all colleagues, valuing their work and ideas, and providing the best possible guidance. My role is to support them in every need, creating the conditions for them to express their skills to the best of their abilities.

2. BMP TAPPI is a company with a history of over 60 years. How has it managed the changes imposed by the market while maintaining its leading position in the sector?

For over 60 years, we have been producing plastic articles and protectors (caps) for industrial applications. Our constant challenge is to keep a close eye on the market, promptly identifying new needs and opportunities. This allows us to develop new articles and to invest in increasingly advanced technologies, which are essential to remain competitive and productive in the long term.

3. Since 2023, BMP TAPPI has been part of the Essentra Group. What have been the main benefits of this acquisition?

The benefits derived from joining the Essentra world are numerous and it is difficult to list them all. The main ones concern the change in mentality and work culture, as well as the synergies and the mutual bonds that have been created with colleagues, including at the international level, in the management of new opportunities and projects.

Another fundamental aspect concerns the strong focus on health & safety, psychological safety and the quality of life, both at work and personally, enjoyed by each person working within the Essentra group.

4. How does BMP TAPPI address the growing demand for sustainability in the industrial sector?

The challenge of sustainability is both fascinating and necessary, both for BMP and, above all, for the environment. This is why we have introduced raw materials such as PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) and PIR (Post Industrial Recycled), with which we can now manufacture most of our products.

Our priority is to continue producing quality items, while maintaining the same physical and mechanical characteristics, by switching from virgin raw material to recycled materials.

5.How is training and talent development managed within BMP TAPPI? What is your approach to the professional development of employees?

Our entry into the Essentra world has generated new jobs at BMP and the introduction of new professional roles; whenever possible, we have always tried to enhance internal resources and encourage the growth of those who show potential. It is both a human and professional journey, and often it is just a matter of offering the right opportunities and supporting employees to achieve excellent results.

Training is carried out on a daily basis and directly on the field, because the greater the autonomy and sense of responsibility of the personnel, the easier and more efficient everyone’s work becomes. Passion and commitment remain the basis to achieve significant results in every area.

6. What are the short and medium-term goals for BMP TAPPI? How do you intend to achieve them?

The goals for 2026 are to improve all processes, especially production processes, with the aim of making them simpler and more automated.

To achieve these results, it will be necessary to invest in new technologies, especially in raw material management, in order to achieve greater production efficiency and better management of production schedules.

7. How do you picture the evolution of the market for plastic caps and components in the coming years?

Plastic is often seen as a material that pollutes the world, but today it is an integral part of our lives: many of the objects we use on a daily basis would not exist without it. Therefore, the goal is to learn how to use it responsibly, especially because it is a material that can be transformed and reused countless times. This is precisely why we are increasing the use of recyclable raw materials.

The plastic caps and protectors sector, in which BMP is the market leader, is a strategic area. In every industrial sector, the need to protect components and parts is growing, which is why we must always remain focused and present in the market to consolidate our position and seize new development opportunities.
